Southern's Track and Field Team performs well at Wheelersburg Invitational!
A long bus ride and facing great competition proved to have no effect on the Tornadoes night, as our athletes managed their energy, stayed focused, and showed up when it counted with 14 out of our 16 athletes finishing in the top 8 and earning at least 1 point for the team.
The first running event of the evening produced a NEW school record as the Boys 4X800 Meter Relay team of Cohen Roush, Caden Hupp, Braydin Thomas, and Andre Chandler took First place with the new school record time of 8 minutes and 31.43 seconds
Andre Chandler also took first place in the Boys 1600 meter run with a time of 4 minutes 45.94 seconds.

Andre Chandler took 1st place and broke the school record in the 800 Meter run with a time of 2:00.66 besting the old record that had stood since 2012.
Edie Templeton also took 1st place in the girls 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:42.70
The Boys 4X800 Meter Relay team of Cohen Roush, Caden Hupp, Braydin Thomas, and Andre Chandler took 1st Place with a time of 8:43.57

Southern High School announces its 2026 Prom Court. King candidates are: Murphy Dunfee, Hunter Jarrell, Noah Leachman, Kase Nelson, Wyatt Smith, and Jacob Wickline. Queen candidates are: Lauren Allen, Jaylynn Hupp, Mia Little, Audrey Riffle, Kianna Rose, and Kiersten Rose. Southern’s Prom is April 18th with walk-in being 7pm to 8pm.
Mark your Calendars!! The Southern High School Band is hosting a fundraiser and bake sale at the Pomeroy Wendy's this Thursday, April 9th from 4p.m. to 8:00p.m. All sales made at that Wendy's during the 4-hour time frame, will get 10% of the total sales donated to the band. We will even have donation buckets inside and out if you do not want to eat at Wendy's, but if you want to donate or get items from the bake sale instead, for the support of the organization. We would also like to recognize Reed Brinager who was named 1st Team All Ohio and Kiersten Rose and Andre Chandler who were named Honorable Mention All Ohio.
Monday, March 23, 2026: Several players and one coach proudly represented Southern Local at Monday’s District 13 All-Star Game, held at Rio Grande Community College.
Representing the Lady Tornadoes were Jaylyn Hupp (Special Mention) and Kiersten Rose (1st Team). Also recognized were Nevaeh Camp (Special Mention) and Sydney Stout (Honorable Mention).
On the boys side, Southern was represented by Andre Chandler (1st Team), Kase Nelson (Special Mention), and Coach Jeff Caldwell, who was named Division 7 Coach of the Year. Additional honors went to Jake Wickline (Honorable Mention) and Reed Brinager, who earned 1st Team honors and was named Player of the Year.
The event also marked a special moment for the program, as Kiersten Rose, Reed Brinager, and Andre Chandler gathered for their first group photo as members of Southern Local’s 2025–26 1,000-Point Club.

Preschool and Kindergarten registration information for 2026-27. The age requirement is no longer August 1. It is now the first day of school, which is August 27, 2026. Your child needs to be 3 for preschool and 5 for kindergarten by August 27, 2026.
