Ashley received the Franklin B. Walter Outstanding Achievement Award. Ashley is recognized for her outstanding contributions in the field of special education. Ashley Neal is a teacher that goes above and beyond what is expected of her. She asks for ideas from her team to better support her students. She is willing to try new things that might be considered as “out of the box thinking.” Ashley’s students are very lucky. She starts every day with morning meetings. The kids circle up after transition times which includes after specials and before they go home. She gives students choice, which fosters ownership and decision making. She teaches with a cooperative learning style in mind. Lessons are fun and her students are always happy. Ashley has much empathy and love for her students. She makes sure they are taken care of and communicates with their families. Her students always feel loved and supported by her. As a colleague, Ashley goes out of her way to check on other teachers and offer support when she can. We are very lucky to have her on our team at Southern Local.
