RACINE — Some of Southern High School's cross-country runners are making history and reaching new milestones as several members of the Tornadoes' teams prepare to compete at the state level on Saturday, Nov. 7.

Leading the way for the girls is Edie Templeton, who made school history by becoming the first female cross-country runner from Southern High School to qualify for the state competition. She also set a school record in the process and placed first in the district championship. Her accomplishment marks a special milestone for the school's athletic program and is a testament to her hard work throughout the season.

While the remaining girls will not advance to the state meet, they have plenty to be proud of after a successful season. Emma Leachman and Avary Wandling have represented SHS with determination and shown tremendous effort throughout the year. Avary qualified for the regional meet and Emma finished the year with a personal record.

The Southern boy's cross-country team will also have a strong presence at the state competition for a second year in a row. Team members are Cohen Roush, Caden Hupp, Braydin Thomas, Drew Lewis, Landen Smith, Dayton Reiber and Colten Grub.

Roush came in fifth at regionals and also qualified individually for state.
Southern High School Principal, Mr. Daniel Otto, said Southern High School has plenty of reasons to celebrate.
“What an incredible accomplishment and a season to be proud of. Best of luck at state! Southern is cheering the students on!” Mr. Otto commented.
The Tornadoes will look to finish their season strong on Saturday at the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) State Meet at Fortress Obetz as they take their talents to the state level and represent their school and community.
Templeton will race at 3:30 p.m., while the boys start at 4:10 p.m.
