POMEROY- Juniors and seniors from Southern High School had the opportunity to explore their future career paths during the Meigs County Job Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
This engaging event took place at the Meigs County Fairgrounds in Pomeroy, attracting a diverse range of businesses and organizations eager to connect with young talent. Students had the chance to interact with representatives from various fields, gaining insights into potential career options.
Attending the job fair were professionals from Vitruvian,
Appalachian Ohio Manufacturers’ Coalition (AOMC), University of Rio Grande, University of Rio Grande Meigs Center, Washington State Community College, Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD), Meigs County Public Transit, Rocky Brands, United States Postal Service (USPS), Integrated Services, Mark Porter, Quality Window Systems, Washington County Career Center, International Association of Heat & Frost Insulators & Allied Workers Local Union 80, UA Local 168 PP&S Tech, Marietta Electrical Apprenticeship, Holzer, Wise Medical, ResCare, Meigs County Job and Family Services, Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), and Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
SHS Senior Braydin Thomas appreciated talking to ODOT’s Photoola Mathers, the Business and Human Resource Administrator.
“I want to go into accounting. I went to ODOT’s table and they do offer accounting. That was pretty cool,” Thomas said.
Professionals from the Army and Army National Guard were also present.
As students explored the event, they were encouraged to ask questions, network, and consider how their interests and skills might align with the various opportunities available.
“I am incredibly proud of our students who took part in the Meigs County Job Fair this morning at the fairgrounds. It was a fantastic opportunity for our juniors and seniors to engage with local businesses and explore various career paths,” said Mr. Daniel Otto, Principal at Southern High School. “I want to thank all the employers who participated and provided valuable insights into their industries. Events like this are essential in helping our students prepare for their futures and make informed decisions about their careers. Together, we are shaping the next generation of leaders.”
The Meigs County Job Fair, hosted by Ohio Means Jobs-Meigs County, not only served as a platform for employment but also inspired students to think critically about their future in the workforce.
