Racine Southern FFA Goes To Ag Mechanic CDE
Article written by Racine Southern FFA 205-2026 Historian, Skyler Allen
Racine Southern FFA members Tyson Hupp, Hunter Lackey, and Bryer Holley recently represented their chapter at the Agricultural Mechanics Career Development Event (CDE) held at Logan High School on March 5th. The competition gave students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of agricultural mechanics and demonstrate important technical skills.
The Agricultural Mechanics CDE follows guidelines similar to those set by the Ohio FFA and National FFA Organization. According to official CDE rules, the event is designed to test students through multiple components, including tool and equipment identification, written knowledge exams, and hands-on skill activities. Participants are expected to demonstrate proper safety practices at all times, and failure to do so can result in disqualification. Teams typically consist of three to four members, and scores are based on a combination of individual performances, often counting the top three scores toward the team total.
The tool identification portion is a key part of the contest, requiring students to accurately recognize various tools and equipment used in agricultural mechanics. Other sections may include identifying mechanical parts, materials such as oils and lubricants, and understanding their uses in real-world agricultural applications.
Overall, the experience at Logan High School allowed Tyson Hupp, Hunter Lackey, and Bryer Holley to strengthen their skills and knowledge in agricultural mechanics. Their participation highlights the dedication of Racine Southern FFA members to hands-on learning and preparing for future careers in agriculture and technical industries. The team placed 6th overall in the district.
We would like to say a big thank you to Tony Carnahan for coaching this CDE team. Members are looking forward to competing in this competition next year!
