Racine Southern FFA Goes To Vet Science CDE

On Friday, March 13th, Racine Southern FFA members Skyler Allen and Emma Owens traveled to Collins Career Center to compete in the Veterinary Science Career Development Event (CDE). The event provided students with an opportunity to test their knowledge and hands-on skills related to animal care and veterinary practices.
During the competition, participants completed an identification section where they were required to recognize various tools, equipment, and anatomical features commonly used in veterinary settings. This portion challenged their attention to detail and understanding of the field.
In addition to the written and identification components, Skyler and Emma also took part in several practical skill stations. One task involved demonstrating how to properly apply eye medication to a cat, emphasizing safety and precision. Another station required them to show the correct method for administering oral medication to a dog, focusing on proper handling techniques to ensure the animal’s comfort and well-being. They also practiced how to safely place a muzzle on a cat, a skill important for preventing injury during treatment.
Overall, the event at Collins Career Center allowed Skyler Allen and Emma Owens to expand their veterinary knowledge while gaining valuable real-world experience. Their participation reflected the dedication of Racine Southern FFA members to learning and excelling in agricultural and animal science fields. Skyler's overall score was 224 out of 285, and Emma's overall score was 222 out of 285.

On Monday, March 16th, Racine Southern FFA members Skyler Allen and Emma Owens demonstrated their knowledge and dedication to animal science by participating in an online Veterinary Science State Exam CDE. This challenging assessment tested students on a wide range of topics essential to the veterinary field.
During the exam, Skyler and Emma were required to identify various veterinary tools commonly used in clinics and animal care settings. This portion of the test measured their familiarity with equipment and its proper use. In addition, they completed a section focused on identifying different types of bacteria, highlighting their understanding of animal health, disease prevention, and basic microbiology.
Another key component of the exam involved recognizing different dog breeds. This section tested their ability to distinguish breeds based on physical characteristics, an important skill for anyone pursuing a career in veterinary science.
By taking part in the online state exam, Skyler Allen and Emma Owens gained valuable experience and further developed their knowledge in veterinary science. Their hard work and commitment reflect the strong involvement of Racine Southern FFA members in preparing for future careers in animal and agricultural sciences. Skyler's overall score was 752 out of 947 students and Emma's overall score was 798 out of 947 students.
