RACINE, OHIO – Southern Junior/Senior High School hosted its third PBIS Incentive Day today, recognizing students who demonstrated positive behavior and met academic expectations during the first nine weeks.
What is PBIS?
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is an evidence-based framework designed to improve student behavior and promote a positive school culture. Rather than focusing solely on discipline, PBIS emphasizes teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors through proactive, data-driven strategies. The framework provides multiple levels of support to meet the needs of all students, ultimately enhancing academic success while supporting social, emotional, and mental well-being.
Junior High Celebration
Junior high students continued their PBIS tradition with an exciting trip to Sky Zone in Charleston, WV. Approximately 51 students earned the opportunity to participate in this high-energy, physically active experience.
High School Celebration
The high school marked its third PBIS event of the year with a two-hour, screen-free game day. Activities were selected collaboratively by staff and the student council, offering students a wide range of engaging options.
A highlight of the event was a new cooking station introduced by Mr. William Whitlock. Students learned how to prepare Fettuccine Alfredo, gaining valuable life skills such as teamwork, time management, safety awareness, and following step-by-step directions. This addition proved to be a meaningful and popular experience.

Approximately 108 students participated, choosing from a variety of activities, including:
Quiet Room with reading and calming activities
Classic board games like Life, Clue, and Candy Land
Strategy and logic games such as chess, Connect 4, and Jenga
Party and social games including Apples to Apples and Tapple
Card and trivia games like UNO and Five Crowns
Role-playing games, including Dungeons & Dragons
Gym activities like dodgeball, knockout, and Sharks & Minnows
Movie room, art activities, karaoke, and more
This event provided students and staff with a valuable opportunity to connect, relax, and celebrate positive choices in a fun, screen-free environment. It also allowed the PBIS committee to gather feedback and continue refining future events based on student interests.
Southern Local extends its sincere appreciation to all staff members who helped organize and supervise the day’s activities. Their dedication made this rewarding experience possible for students.
