Gold Rated FFA Officer Books

Written By Skyler Allen, 2025-2026 Racine Southern FFA Historian

The Racine Southern FFA Chapter is celebrating a major accomplishment this year as its Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter/Historian have each earned Gold ratings for their officer books and will be recognized at the State FFA State Convention held at the Columbus State Fairgrounds on May 1st of 2026.

Earning a Gold rating is one of the highest honors an FFA officer can achieve for record keeping and chapter communication. Officer books are detailed records that document the work, planning, leadership activities, and achievements of each officer throughout the year. These books reflect not only the dedication of the individual officer, but also the strength and organization of the entire chapter.

The Secretary’s Gold-rated book, completed by Marcy Evans,  highlighted thorough meeting minutes, accurate attendance records, and well-organized documentation that kept the chapter running efficiently. Strong communication and attention to detail ensured that members stayed informed and that official records were maintained at the highest standard.

Reporters Gold rated book, completed by Hunter lackey and Skyler Allen, both rely on their “officer books” as essential tools, but they use them in slightly different ways. A reporter uses their book to quickly capture facts, quotes, and observations from events or interviews, focusing on accuracy and immediacy so they can produce timely news stories. Their notes are often brief, direct, and tied to current events. In contrast, a historian treats their book as a place to gather detailed records over time collecting dates, sources, interpretations, and reflections about the past. Historians analyze and cross-check information in their notes to build a deeper understanding of events and their causes. While both depend on careful record-keeping, reporters aim to inform the present, whereas historians work to interpret and explain the past.

Treasurers Gold rated book, completed by Will Smith, carefully manages and documents all financial activities for the chapter. In this book, they record income from fundraisers, track expenses, and keep an up-to-date balance of the chapter’s funds. They also use it to organize receipts, budgets, and financial reports, making it easier to present clear updates during meetings. By keeping accurate and detailed records in the officer book, the treasurer helps ensure transparency, accountability, and responsible use of money, which is essential for the chapter’s success and trust among its members.
