Students from Preschool through Grade 3 had an exciting and educational day learning about fire prevention with this year’s Fire Prevention Week™ (FPW™) theme: "Charge into Fire Safety!" The highlight of the day was a visit from members of the Racine Volunteer Fire Department, who brought along a firetruck for students to explore.

The 2025 FPW™ campaign, held from October 5–11, focuses on the safe use of lithium-ion batteries with the message: "Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home." The campaign aims to educate families on how to BUY, CHARGE, and RECYCLE these batteries safely to prevent fires.

The informative presentations were led by Autumn Tackett, with support from Charley Pyles, Dax Holman, Dalton Patterson, Charlie Wolfe, Jack Lyons, and Mayor Scott Hill. Students learned essential fire safety tips including:

  • How to safely exit their home in case of a fire

  • The importance of calling 911 in an emergency

  • The "Stop, Drop, and Roll" technique

  • Proper use and handling of lithium-ion batteries

Each student received a firefighter hat and an activity packet to take home, helping to reinforce the day’s lessons in a fun and engaging way.
