RACINE, OH - The Racine Southern FFA Chapter, in collaboration with the Meigs FFA Chapter, once again played a pivotal role in the Meigs County Fair, hosting their annual Livestock Judging Contest. The event, held at the Ridenour Livestock Arena, on August 14, 2025, provided a valuable opportunity for community members of all ages to test their knowledge and skills in evaluating market animals.
The contest is a highlight of the Meigs County Fair's Junior Fair activities, which are focused on providing educational experiences and leadership opportunities for local youth. With over 65 participants this year. Participants in the judging contest were tasked with evaluating various classes of animals, including steers, lambs, goats, and hogs, based on criteria like market readiness, structural correctness, and overall quality.
The contest is structured to be accessible to everyone, with three distinct age divisions: Junior (13 and under), Senior (14 to 19), and Adult (20 and up). This allows a wide range of individuals, from aspiring young exhibitors to seasoned livestock enthusiasts, to participate and compete for top honors. Prizes are awarded to the top places in each age division, recognizing their keen eye and expertise.
The Livestock Judging Contest is just one of many ways the Racine Southern FFA Chapter contributes to the local agricultural community. The chapter is known for its active involvement in various activities throughout the year, including career development events (CDEs) in areas like soil judging and job interviews, as well as community service projects and agricultural education initiatives.
