Pomeroy, OH — On Thursday, May 8, Southern Local eighth-grade students visited Meigs High School to explore the wide range of Career Technical Education (CTE) programs offered on campus.
The day began with a warm welcome in the cafeteria, where Ms. Amy Perrin, Career Coach at Meigs High School, introduced students to the day’s events and provided an overview of the various opportunities available through CTE. Assistant Principal David Kight followed with brief remarks about how these programs can provide a strong foundation for future careers.
With guidance from Meigs High School student volunteers, the visiting students toured multiple CTE classrooms and labs. Programs showcased during the visit included:
Criminal Justice
Automotive Technology
Welding
Animal Science & Management
Medical & Business Administration
Construction Technology
Early Childhood Education
Cosmetology
Allied Health & Nursing
Network Systems
Medical & Business Administration
The Medical and Business Administration program’s newly added mock retail store was a cool part of the tour. It features clothing, shoes, prom dresses, and other merchandise. The students are still in the process of organizing the room.
Students in this program gain real-world experience in business operations, including payroll, inventory management, and entrepreneurship.
The visit offered students a hands-on introduction to the practical skills and career pathways that await them in high school and beyond.
Special thanks to the CTE instructors, student volunteers, and presenters who helped make the day both informative and engaging. Appreciation is also extended to the Southern Local School District chaperones: Mrs. Amy Roush, Mr. Russ Fields, Mr. Kyle Wickline, and Mrs. Lori Sharp, for their support during the visit.
