Racine Southern FFA Competes in the District 10 Ag Mech CDE

Students will perform mechanical skills necessary to pursue career opportunities in the agricultural industry. They will learn and apply technical knowledge and skills related to electrical and hydraulic systems and metallurgy in relation to hot and cold metals. Additionally, students will apply skill components of metal fabrication applicable to the agricultural industry. Throughout the competition, students will learn critical site and personal safety as well as communication and leadership skills.

This contest was a first time contest for our FFA Chapter. At the District 10 contest held at Logan High School. Members reported that they had to do the following at their contest; Fluid Identification, Tool Identification, Bolt Identification, Engine Identification, how to use a Micrometer, Telescoping Gage, and Fueller Gage,

Mulitmeter. They also had to use an Arc welder to make a T weld and use an Oxy Acetylene Cutting Torch to cut metal. Members included: Nathanial Nero, Michelle Adkins and Skyler Allen. Nathanial Nero stated, “It was a very valuable learning opportunity for me and peers to learn things that we had not had an opportunity to learn. Next year we will learn more, practice longer and come back better than ever. 1st place bound.” Our FFA chapter placed 9th in District 10, and plans to do this contest again and work towards a high placement.
