RACINE, OH: The Southern Local School District staff and students, with great support from our community, have completed quite the amount of philanthropy.

Starting with our volleyball team and their Volley for the Cure game on Monday, October 2. Volley for the Cure is a regular season high school volleyball match that is designated as cancer awareness and fundraising. The goal is to pack the stands with Pink! This annual event raised $2,750.00. This includes generous donations made by The Meigs County Bikers Association ($500), an anonymous donation ($300), and Olivia Norris made and sold bracelets to support the cause ($136). Rest of the money was raised through a raffle of baskets made by each grade, split the pot, and the selling of fan towels, etc.… On behalf of Southern Local, thank you to all those that donated financially, with time, or supported the raffles.

This night followed a “Service Week” by the Southern Local Junior and Senior High School. During this week the student body had competitions and fundraisers to “do for others”. This year they raised a total of $858.98 through a “Penny War” and “Mad Hatters” event. This money was sent to support the Leukemia Society. The student body also collected 747 food items for the local food banks and families in need. "Service Week" was led by our Student Council Officers: President, Alexis Smith; Vice President, Brayden Otto; Secretary, Ava Roush; Treasurer, David Kemppel; Reporter, Chloe Rizer; and Bailiff, Taylor Tucker. Adviser is Ryan Davis.
