Welcome! I am a past student of Southern Local and am so proud to be working in this district. I am a 1999 SHS grad. My husband, Ryan, and I both have lots of fond memories of our years as "Tornadoes." This year my oldest daughter, Marlo, is in the 6th grade. My youngest daughter, Ali, is in the 4th grade. I'm excited for them to persue their long paths of learning here in Racine as "Tornadoes!"
After graduating from high school, I moved to Athens where I attended Ohio University as a Fashion Retail / Business major. Though I loved this program, I knew that working with children was where I would be truly happy. After completing two years at OU, I changed my major to Early Childhood Development. What a great decision! I graduated in 2004 from OU's College of Education.
I soon after decided to get my Master's degree and was accepted into the University of Rio Grande's graduate program. In the mean time in 2005, I was hired by Southern Local Schools. In 2006, I recieved my Master's Degree as an Intervention Specialist.
My past experiences include teaching pre-k, special education, 3rd grade grammar, science, and social studies, and 5th grade language arts. Currently, I'm theTitle I teacher. I've began working with students of all ability levels and have fallen in love with the minds of these little scholars. As a Title teacher, I will be using different modes and methods of instruction to create a rich learning environment. "Fundations" is a phonics program that I will be implementing in the classroom this year, helping young readers and writers understand that spoken (and written) language consists of parts.
It is also important to note that parent involvement also plays a large part in a child's success in school. Please feel free to contact me if you are in need of tools or ideas that can help your child to be successful, not only at school, but at home too.
